We wanted a matt feel but knew using a metallic ink could potentially soak into the paper, appearing flat, but this worked a treat and the gold held a lovely subtle sheen. Many thanks for the recommendation of that stock, and thanks to Phil at Gavin Martin Colournet who worked his magic to get the premium but industrial feel we were after. Super delighted with the Gold win at The Drum - wish I could cut the award into 3 and share it you and Phil. Very best. I am taking an online bookbinding course with an American tutor and we are both at our wits' end trying to work out what kind of board is equivalent to her American binders board. I am hoping you might be able to help us. US binders board seems to be stronger and more rigid than their chipboard, but not as dense and hard to cut as our millboard. The board the tutor likes (Lineco 80pt binders board, which is about 2mm) has a layered structure, unlike what Americans call Davey board which does not. She was horrified at the idea that I might use something equivalent to US chipboard.

Is all our UK greyboard equivalent to US chipboard or is some of it perhaps more like US binders board? Specialist bookbinding suppliers here do sell greyboard they say is suitable for book covers, with one describing theirs as "traditional Dutch greyboard". If you could help us know what I should be buying, we would be very grateful.jennykhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06560213488138115093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7054126605724460225.post-667529182097060822017-03-20T09:18:33.874+00:002017-03-20T09:18:33.874+00:00Hi Nomad Turtle. Greyboard is made in a convential way as with all paper and board, no adhesive is introduced, it's purely the fibres interlocking in a natural way that holds the board together. Hope that helps. In some ways the term manilla in respect of envelopes has become synonymous with the colour - I think most people in the UK market would expect a manilla envelope to be a brown shade. In the olden days (!) it would have been possible to have a white or tinted manilla envelope, so it depends on whether you are wanting to know about the present or the past. Manilla is often now used as a colour description of brown shades as in paints for instance. I hope that helps. You can email me at Justin@fennerpaper.co.uk if you would like to continue our dialogue!
