Lemon Tree Business Cards

LemonTree are a cleaning company based in the South East ...and they are a cleaning company with an environmental ethos. Only businesses with the highest standards of social and environmental performance are eligible for a B Corps certificate and LemonTree is on the path to B Corp full Certification, which certifies companies worldwide, because of the positive impact on customers, workers, community and the environment. This is their lovely Business Card...
The size is 55 x 85mm and it is printed on our Crush Kiwi made by Favini in Italy. Crush is made partly using the residue from the industrial processing of crushed citrus fruit, coffee, nuts, olives, kiwi, corn, lavender cherries and grapes, these agro-industrial "end of life" products replacing up to 15% of conventional tree pulp. This is combined with 40% recycled fibres (post consumer waste) and the remainder is FSC virgin pulp and the product is FSC certified. The range is produced using green energy and is carbon balanced at the mill gate (we can also supply the paper in the UK, certified as carbon balanced).
The card is digitally printed by MTA on their HP Indigo press. It has been printed with a white layer first with the yellow printing on top which makes the colors, especially the vivid yellow really pop!
As you can see from the image below, the Crush Kiwi has inclusions in the paper which are visible. The paper was chosen because of it's environmental pedigree and that the shade of pale green really worked with the identity.
The card is printed on Crush Kiwi 250gsm, which has then been duplexed to make 500gsm.

Design is by Imagist, a brand consultancy based in London and the design is by Rose Cornish.

Canalpath Creative - Cards

Canalpath are a creative agency based in Edinburgh who have recently created their new business cards. The cards are the standard UK business card size of 55x85mm in a landscape format and are produced on our range called Remake.
The cards are simply (but beautifully) printed in one colour and debossed on the face on Remake Sky 380gsm which is duplexed to Remake midnight 380gsm to make a 760gsm, 1mm thick card. The reverse side on the black (midnight) is clear gloss UV varnished.

Remake is the range produced by Favini and Remake is leather ‘upcycling’ on an industrial scale and represents the latest frontier in upcycling in the paper sector. This unique and innovative paper replaces 25% of wood tree pulp with leather residues. You can read more about Remake here.

Below you can see the duplexed cards.
The below image shows detail of the debossing...
Production of the cards is by Steve Thorburn at Base Print Solutions and they have made an exceptional job of the production.

Industry

Although titled Industry, Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre’s photographs are a dedicated study of the human story. These images are evidence of our footprint on the earth, they document the relics we leave behind from our endeavours, the shape of the past, the feel of history, an impression of an era on our minds, the ghosts of men, modernist shapes rising out of the ground that were once beacons of technological achievement, testaments to our advancement. Now these cathedrals of industry lay shattered, broken and forgotten, tombs to man’s hubris, a reminder that nothing lasts forever, a reminder that we all will perish and rot one day.

This is the invitation to the private view of the exhibition held at the Tristan Hoare Gallery in September. The front of the invitation is an image from the exhibition photographed by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre and shows Control Room, Kelenfold Power Station, Budapest, Hungary 2012.

The size of the invitation is A5 (148x210mm), Landscape and is printed Offset Litho. The invitation is printed on our Omnia 320gsm and is triplexed (to 960gsm) making it over 1.5mm thick. The use of Omnia means that the image has reproduced faithfully, as you can see from the detail image below, however the invitation still has an uncoated tactile feel.
The below image shows the 1.5mm thickness...

The Big Book Bonanza Catalogue

This is the  'The Big Book Bonanza' catalogue which showcases the new Autumn releases from HarperCollins publishers. Throughout the publication are the same wonderful psychedelic Kaleidoscope style illustrations as on the invitations to the launch event (see previous post) by Emily Forgot.
Size of the catalogue is 210mm square, saddle stitched. It is printed on our Omnia - 4pp cover on 320gsm and 32pp text on 150gsm.

The choice of material for this job was important, the reason being that the strong illustrations on the divider pages meant that it had to print solids really well but there's also lots of great commissioned photography included, so it was important to have a material which worked for both without compromising either and as I hope these pictures show, it looks really good.

The other very good reason that Omnia was chosen was the use of metallic gold pantone 'special' ink. On most traditional uncoated papers, metallics can look flat and with gold can just look a bit brown, but as I hope the below image demonstrates, metallic gold really does look metallic on Omnia.
Design and art direction is by Zoƫ Bather.

The catalogues are printed offset litho in four colour process plus metallic gold special. Print production was handled by Alan Mountain at Forward Print (sales@forward-print.com)

John Eskenazi Invitations

John Eskenazi is one of the most internationally respected dealers in Indian, Gandharan, Himalayan and South-east Asian works of art. He is also a specialist in collectors' carpets and textiles.

This is the invitation to view the latest acquisitions.
The invitations are A5, portrait and are particularly thick and prestigious having been mounted onto our Construction Blackstone 1500microns, making the total thickness nearly 2mm.
The invitations have been printed on an HP Indigo digital press and this is interesting as it's the first time that I have seen a genuine duotone (just two colours) printed on an HP Indigo, rather than out of four colours
Design and Art Direction is by Ornan Rotem at Sylph Editions.

Printing and the terrific finishing - which was all achieved in house is by Zone Graphics, based in Paddock Wood in Kent.

The Big Book Bonanza

This is the invitation to the showcase of new books from Harper Collins. Billed as 'The Big Book Bonanza' the function was held at the Crimson Bar at The Soho Hotel in May.
The invitation has a fantastic illustration by Emily Forgot, which is like a psychedelic kaleidoscope - great illustration and a really strong image.

The invitation is 180mm square and rather than being printed in CMYK, it is printed using black plus 3 pantone colours - fluoro orange, blue and metallic gold.
The material chosen is our Omnia, which works especially well with metallic inks, as they actually look metallic! and the solid fluoro colours jump out, but still with an uncoated, tactile feel.
As the invitation is just a single card, it is duplexed (2x320gsm) to make 640gsm. You can see the thickness in the image below.
Design and art direction is by Zoƫ Bather.

The invitations are printed offset litho in four colours as described above. Print and production was handled by Alan Mountain at Forward Print (sales@forward-print.com)

Run & Achieve

Run & Achieve is the creation of Lily Mo, an Edinburgh jewellery designer. They are bracelets for half-marathon and marathon runners with the distances engraved – each bracelet is handmade in Edinburgh using sterling silver and cord that is water resistant.

This elegant packaging was designed and produced by Evgenia Kochkina, based in Edinburgh and is a brilliant piece of packaging design.
The card is 95mm square and is letterpress printed in two colours - a metallic silver halftone and dark orange and dark orange on the reverse. It is printed on our Matrisse 350gsm, which is very bulky, and is then duplexed making this 700gsm and 1mm thick. There are die cut notches for the cord to sit in and the cards are also 'round cornered'. The card gets inserted into a wallet (115mm square) made from Matrisse 350gsm which is letterpress printed in the same two colours on one side only.
If you click on the image to enlarge the picture, you'll be able to see the coarse screen of the halftone in silver - wonderfully effective use of halftone and letterpress.

Design, print and production is by Evgenia Kochkina at Stoneberry Press in Edinburgh. Her email says "I only discovered Matrisse qualities during this job. Very elegant paper and good for colours!"

This is a very simple, elegantly produced packaging solution ..and with the perfect paper!
