TIC CC

TIC CC is a UK brand of performance cycling clothing. Created for road athletes looking to achieve extraordinary things, their products are defined by the finest technical fabrics, hours of development and testing time, and a unique ‘peloton style’ aesthetic. The brand is also passionate in their commitment to sustainability...
Make responsibly — protect the irreplaceable! As riders we see it as our duty to do all we can to reduce the harm, protect the irreplaceable and make a positive difference. We are as passionate about ‘how we make’ as we are ‘what we make’
This is the printed promotional literature for their SS21 collection, used both as a mailer and sent out together with orders. The format is a 16pp, folded concertina, as you can see here...
The finished size is 240 x 170mm, folding out to 480 x 680mm.

The concept for their SS21 photo shoot was based around the notion of ‘where we have been and where we are heading’. "We are more aware of the fragility of the world we live in based on our recent experiences of the pandemic. But tough challenges can lead to reflection, empowerment and renewed optimism. It’s the human spirit in action. The photography captures the optimism and sense of progression for the TICCC brand. This is a positive year for us as 95% of the SS21 collection uses performance fabrics made from recycled fibres. No mean feat considering less than 10% of the worlds fibre production is made with recycled materials."

Be the Change - main spread
Released this April, this promo focuses on their spring/summer collection which reflects the change we all need to be. It represents their commitment to setting new industry standards for sustainability.

...and what about the paper? Well it has to be 100% recycled and our Shiro Echo, White in 100gsm was chosen, not just because it is recycled but it would handle the high density black CMYK coverage and the fluoro orange would "pop" out!
...and it works beautifully.

Printing is by Identity Print in Paddock Wood and as I hope you can tell from the images, they have made a fantastic job. The solid black is amazing but still letting the images and the detail within them work.
Creative direction and design is by TIC CC and Hugh Miller.

Interestingly, having spoken to the company founder, Andrew Monk, about the project, I learnt that this is their first piece of promotional print. As an online retailer, all their information is available online, but he increasingly regards print as an important way of getting their messaging and brand across, which is great news. After all, in this virtual world, there's nothing as immediate as something physical you can just pick up and read.

Nothing is Permanent

Cross-disciplinary designer and printmaker, Paul Wolterink works across a range of media, believing "Anything can function as a carrier for information". From his roots as graphic designer, Wolterink's design vision is based on rapid instinctive 'design intuition' resulting in strong communication and simple visual language, that quickly burns on the retina - which is certainly true with this bright fluorescent print!

In Paul's own words: "Small edition re-print no. 2, in a new colour combination, of my ode to the classic marker pen series and, also, as a tribute to one of my favourite mottos 'Nothing is Permanent'. Useful in a headwind, but also in a tailwind. This Blue & Fluorescent orange version comes in an edition of 50 prints only".
Paul Wolterink finished screen printing this new colour way reprint a day before 14 days isolation. The size is 230x500mm and is hand silkscreen printed on our Matrisse 200gsm, signed and numbered
as you can see below...
Below image shows the screen...

UEL Undergraduate Study Guide

The University of East London is world class university, based on three campuses in the Docklands area of London. On becoming a University in 1992, the establishment has grown with a particularly international outlook, having 19,000 students from over 120 countries.
This publication is the Undergraduate Study Guide and rather than being a dry old prospectus, which many of us will be familiar with, this is a far more engaging piece of literature. With all the information being available online, this is a book which stimulates the imagination, rather than just listing the vast array of courses.

Size is 265x200mm, portrait, with a 4pp cover, 112pp text and perfect bound. The spine is 8mm.
The whole publication is printed on our Shiro range from Italian manufacturer FAVINI. It is all printed on Shiro Echo, which is 100% Recycled, however the guide is cleverly divided into two sections using different shades of paper. The first 'introduction' section is 42pp and is printed on Shiro Echo Bright White 120gsm (see above images) and the second section (70pp) which gives an overview of the 150 courses available is printed on Shiro Echo White 120gsm, which is a more neutral white. You can see the difference in shades from the image below:
The print result is superb. It is printed Offset Litho in four colour process plus a special - Fluorescent green. As I hope you can tell from these images, the quality of the photography has been enhanced by good repro and excellent printing.

You can see the change in the shades of the paper on the foredge of the guide in the image below
Spine is nice and square and well creased and finished.
...no problem with printing a full bleed fluorescent solid green on the Shiro...
As you can see from the image below, the perfect binding is nice and neat.
The excellent art direction and design is by the in house team at UEL, which is lead by creative director Anton Webb, with the print managed by Head of Print Services, Stephen Marlow.
Printing is by Sure Print Services, based in East London, with Bradley Jones looking after the project. A really first rate piece of print.
