As Christmas draws closer, here are some wonderful examples of Christmas cards, all printed on our lovely Shiro Echo, Bright White 300gsm,  which is 100% recycled and has FSC Mix accreditation.
The cards are from a range called "Call of the Wild" by London based card publisher Roger La Borde. They are 4pp cards printed offset litho in four colours and the cards are either laser cut or embellished with hot foil blocking.

The below lasercut cards are illustrated by Antoana Oreski
The below card is illustrated by Jane Ray and is embellished with gold hot foil blocking in the illustration which works brilliantly well.
...credits on the reverse of the card showing the FSC logo.
The cards are published by Roger la Borde.

The cards are printed offset litho by Lion House Press who are in West London and the foiling is by Graphite Creative who are based in St Albans. The lasercutting is by Trilogy Lasercraft.

High Five Friday!

Here is a card from a range of greeting cards called Thefty from London based card publisher Roger La Borde. This is a 4pp card printed offset litho in two colours and I thought it was important to write about this card as it has been further embellished with the addition of thermography on the front of the card.
The size of the card is 147x100mm, which is what Roger la Borde describe as their Petite size. the card is printed on Shiro Echo, Bright White 300gsm, which is 100% recycled and has FSC Mix accreditation.
I wasn't able to catch the thermography in both colours (black and green) against the light with my unsophisticated camera equipment (!) so I've shot the thermo'd areas individually, as you can see below:
I have written about thermography before, so if you are interested to find out about the process, please click on the following link: http://justinsamazingworldatfennerpaper.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/what-is-number-2.html

The cards are published by Roger la Borde and the design is by Helena Maratheftis.

The cards are printed by Lion House Press who are in West London and the thermography is by Graphite Creative who are based in St Albans.

Hello Handsome!

Here's a cracking new range of Father's Day cards from independent greeting card publisher Blue Eyed Sun. The 'Hello Handsome' range cards are all 160mm square and are sold through the trade to card shops and retailers ...so they are in the shops now!

The cards are printed CMYK, offset litho on our Rib-Tone, 2 sided which is a natural unbleached brown 'kraft' shade with a feint rib and a 100% recycled inner board.
One of the interesting things about Rib-Tone is that although it is a brown shade, it provides a very neutral background for what is printed on it and therefore is one of the few substrates that seems obvious yet, almost becomes invisible and doesn't interfere with the design.
The cards are designed and published by Blue Eyed Sun. Design is by Jo Corner. The cards are printed by Graphite Creative who are based in St Albans.

Blue Eyed Sun is an award winning greeting card company based in Brighton established fifteen years ago. They specialise in handmade and high end design-led cards, which are now sold around the world by some of the best know retailers including Harrods, John Lewis etc.

Joint founder and managing director Jeremy Corner is a leading figure in the greeting card world. He is instrumental within the 'Ladder Club' which helps aspiring greeting card publishers and is on the council of the Greeting Card Association (GCA). He is a real advocate for the industry ...and he still finds time to be a regular blogger! http://www.blueeyedsun.co.uk/blog

Wood it be true

Here is an exceptional new range of greeting cards from innovative card publisher, Velvet Olive. This new series of cards under the range title "Wood it be true" combines type and illustration on these fun cards. The basis of all the cards is the use of  'tree rings' in the design (these rings, or the study of rings, is apparently called 'Dendros' ...I had to look this up!) combined with wood-block style type.
The cards are 4pp, 170x120mm, portrait and are printed on our new Crush Citrus 350gsm. This is our lovely new paper from Favini, made using agro-industrial residues from the processing of citrus fruit in Italy and replacing up to 15% tree pulp. You can read about it here:
http://www.favini.com/graphic_specialities/en/crush-prd-26.php
The cards are designed by Kathryn Fletcher, who is the founder of Velvet Olive. You can see the other beautiful cards in the range here: http://www.velvetolive.co.uk/collections/new-wood-it-be-true.
Kathryn started publishing cards in 2004 and she now supplies to a wide range of shops and boutiques including Paperchase and Waterstones.

The cards are printed by Graphite Creative who are based in St Albans. Now it's just worth pointing out that although these cards have a minimal amount of print (2 colours, offset litho) Graphite, who specialise in the production of Greetings cards, have a lot of 'in house' capabilities. These include die-stamping, hot foil blocking, blind embossing, flitter (that's like glitter), film lamination and they can also do film lamination with effects. A pretty impressive range of kit!

Thanks to Kathryn for sending me the selection of cards.
