Thread Business Cards

Thread is a studio specialising in design for a wide variety of clients from the art and cultural sector. Thread is the design studio of Michael Windsor-Ungureanu ...and these are his very simple and effective business cards.
I wrote about his new studio brochure earlier in the year but I hadn't realised that very cleverly, he printed his business cards at the same time ...very economical!

Front...
Size of the cards is 85x45mm, there are three different coloured cards, all produced on Colorset - a mix of Ash, Lemon and Deep Orange, all printed offset litho in one special pantone (PMS 072U) blue.

For those of you not familiar with Colorset, it is our range of coloured text and cover papers which is also 100% recycled and more competitively priced than some other well known brands of coloured paper! There are 26 colours including black and white

Design is by Michael Windsor-Ungureanu. Printing is by Bowmans based in Leeds

Thread

Thread is a studio specialising in design for a wide variety of clients from the art and cultural sector. Thread is the design studio of Michael Windsor-Ungureanu, who has previously worked at Tate Britain and Tate Modern. This is the second edition of his studio promotional brochure:
The format is A5 (210x148mm) portrait and is saddle stiitched. The 40pp text has a short cover, 150mm high which is centred head to foot.
There are three different coloured covers, all produced on Colorset - a mix of Ash, Lemon and Deep Orange, all printed in one special pantone (PMS 072U) blue. The "thread" design runs from the cover throughout the middle of the brochure.

The 40pp text is printed on StarFine Natural White 115gsm and shows the work that Thread has produced over the previous couple of years.

Starfine Natural White was chosen (because it prints well ...but that's a given!) mainly because of the neutral white shade which is not cream. Given the nature of the work, a stark bright white paper would not have worked with such a variety of art based subjects. Text is printed CMYK offset litho throughout.
Below shows a birds eye view of the publication
Design is by Michael Windsor-Ungureanu. Printing is by Bowmans based in Leeds and it's a very accomplished piece of print and finishing.

Our Clouded Hills

This is the literature produced for Rossi & Rossi for the contemporary art fair ART14 held in London earlier this year. Titled as "Our Clouded Hills" they presented an exhibition of paintings by three Tibetan artists: Gade, Tenzing Rigdol and Tsherin Sherpa. Their works incorporate traditional Tibetan and Buddhist symbolism and techniques to comment on issues faced by Tibet, its inhabitants, and the Tibetan Diaspora.

This simple but effective publication is A5, portrait and is 8pp gatefold format. It is printed on Astralux [1sided] 250gsm in Silver. Printed one colour, special, on the outside (on the grey) and CMYK on the inside. Astralux is a 'Cast coated' board and if you aren't sure what that is, you can read a previous post, where I've explained what cast coated papers are:

Designer is Michael Windsor-Ungureanu of Thread Design. This is a great example of where a simple/different use of a material has been used to enhance the overall quality and feel of a piece of literature.

Print production is by Tower Printing, based in Peckham.
