Manuel Canovas

This is the gorgeous brochure for the Trianon Collection from luxury brand Manuel Canovas, based in Paris. Trianon is a range of wallpapers and fabrics based on paintings, drawn in Chinoiserie style, by Jean-Baptiste Pillement in the 18th Century.
The size of the publication is 240mm x 170mm, portrait and is saddle stitched, printed on our StarFine White. 4pp cover on 300gsm and 8pp text on 200gsm. Printed CMYK offset litho and hot foil blocked in gold metallic foil on the cover.
StarFine is a quality, uncoated paper and as the images show, image reproduction is excellent. The detail of the wallpaper and fabrics is stunning - great detail for an uncoated paper, colours are bright and vivid.
The brass wire used for the saddle stitches is a really lovely touch - which brilliantly compliments the gold foiling on the cover.

Jane Churchill - New 2016 collection

Jane Churchill has built an international reputation for creating fresh designs specifically intended to work together to produce a wide range of looks, both contemporary and traditional. This is a promotional card for the new season's collection from the Jane Churchill collection.

The card features Holmewood, a wonderfully patterned embroidered stripe with a Suzani inspired design.
The 2pp cards are A5 (210x148mm) portrait and are printed on our Omnia 280gsm. They are printed CMYK offset litho with a special pantone grey on the reverse The colour reproduction is strong and vivid and the whole invitation has a matt, tactile look and feel.
Please just take the time to click on the image below and hopefully you'll be able to appreciate just how sharp the reproduction is...

Colefax and Fowler Collection

I've written many posts on this blog which includes the phrase "...just the cover makes the difference!" None of the previous posts can compare with the cover on this superb piece of literature.
The cover alone is quite simply stunning. It has the most amazing embossing which is present over the entire front and back cover. This fine piece of embossing just exudes quality and is a fine introduction to the wallpapers, fabrics and trimmings in the collection.
The size of the publication is 280x220mm, portrait and is saddle stitched. The 4pp cover is simply hot foil blocked in matt white foil and beautifully embossed on our Colorset Dark Grey 350gsm (which is also 100% recycled). The 20pp text is printed on 150gsm "house silk".

Hopefully you will be able to see from the images below just how crisp, detailed and deep the embossing is.
The embossing is based on one of the new collections in the Colefax and Fowler range called "Sinclair". This fabric design has been redrawn and reinterpreted to works as an embossed finish and it has translated delightfully.
The text pages certainly don't disappoint, with beautiful room settings and photography.
The below image shows the full extent of the emboss over the front and back cover.

This image below shows the cover from the inside and hopefully you can make out the depth of the embossing.
I hope I have done this piece of literature justice. Colefax and Fowler are renowned for epitomising the very best of English style. Investing in printed publications of this quality demonstrates a confidence and belief in their brand which will surely ensure their longevity.

Manuel Canovas 2014 collection

Manuel Canovas is a luxury fabric brand based in the rue Saint-Honoré in Paris. This unmistakably French collection is inspired by the spirit of the art de vivre associated with 18th century France re-interpreted to contemporary taste by design director Ariane Dalle.

“Canovas is the art of living à la Francaise” says Ariane Dalle, “with a very special colour palette, and a real touch of originality.”

Manuel Canovas is one of the Colefax group brands and this piece of literature has been created in the UK,  for the new 2014 collection.
The size of the publication is 240mm x 170mm, portrait and is saddle stitched. it has a 4pp cover printed on 300gsm and an 8pp text on 200gsm. It is printed on our StarFine White, which is an uncoated paper, but as you can see, the reproduction is excellent - the images have reproduced with an amazing vibrancy and incredible detail for an uncoated paper.
There are a couple of extra things to point out about this job. Firstly the brass wire used for the saddle stitches is a really lovely touch - works brilliantly for this publication.
The brochure was printed offset litho but I just want to share a point about the origination. The repro for the publication was produced using Stochastic FM screening or what is also known as "random screening". This is system which makes up the four colours using a random distribution of the CMYK colours (created using algorithms of random pixel distribution) as opposed to the more normal halftone screening, made up of dots (AM screening)

The reason that this technique was suggested and successfully produced by the printer (Pureprint), was because there was the potential of a moiré pattern appearing on the very detailed photography. Moiré is a visually evident pattern created when two or more patterns are overlaid and in the case of this brochure, because of the detailed patterns (see image below) it was considered that a conventional screen (for halftone printing) which would effectively overlay this pattern (to create the dots to make up the image) and risk creating a Moiré pattern.

An example of Moiré
Moiré looks like a pattern is going wavy, almost in-front of your eyes and doesn't just happen in printing, it happens in screen based and other applications, anything where a "clash" occurs between patterns. One of the annoying things is that it is not certain that it WILL appear and it is difficult to second guess! The changing of screen angles (at the repro stage) may also get round the issue. If you haven't come across it before, you can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern

Creative direction and production is handled in house at Colefax & Fowler, designer on this project is Rachael Ashley. Print production is by Pureprint handled by Richard Owers.

All in all, this is a lovely piece of literature which conveys the detail and the quality of the fabrics, beautifully.
