Mulberry Mongoose Cards

Mulberry Mongoose is a jewellery workshop, located on a well-trodden elephant path in the remote Zambian bush. Local craftswomen make all the jewellery by hand using natural materials from the South Luangwa valley. This simple 4pp piece of literature is used as an information leaflet promoting the jewellery and tours of the workshop to the tourists who stay at the local safari lodges in the local area. These simple cards and price tags are used in the shop adjacent to the workshop, where they sell directly to the tourists who stay at the local safari lodges in the local area.

Size of the cards is 85 x 55mm and they are printed Offset Litho on our lovely Flora Anice 350gsm.
Flora is a part recycled text and cover paper with a deliberately recycled look and feel with specks and inclusions, so it looks deliberately flecky and specky.

The price tags are a teeny 60 x 20mm and have a little perforation, so that the price can be written on in pen but removed by the customer if it is being given as a gift - that is a really lovely touch.

Flora is produced with 30% post consumer de-inked waste, together with 60% of virgin FSC pulp 10% cotton fibres, which gives the paper a wonderful tactile feel.

The Mulberry Mongoose brand identity and design is by Matt Morgan. There is some other superb collateral they've produced, which I shall write about soon. Print is by Identity Print.

A Life Less Ordinary

Mulberry Mongoose is a jewellery workshop, located on a well-trodden elephant path in the remote Zambian bush. Local craftswomen make all the jewellery by hand using natural materials from the South Luangwa valley and this is their story...
This lovely little book, tells the story of how the enterprise began, the jewellery, the characters and the materials used to make the pieces.

The chapter divider spreads are printed using a gorgeous solid magenta...

There are these superb illustrations used to illustrate the stories, absolutely gorgeous!

The new year starts here...

It might only be October, but the clever new 2020/2021 calendar from Healeys Printers starts now and runs through to December next year. This way you can look ahead and plan without the disruption of changing calendars in January - a very clever idea!
Healeys are based in Ipswich and are one of a handful of printers who are registered as a 'Carbon Balanced Printer' by the World Land Trust and can offer a totally carbon balanced printing service including the paper and all aspects of production and delivery.
The desk calendar is wiro-bound onto a 'tent' card, as you can see below...
The size of each of the calendar leaves is 155x180mm and each month is printed on a different board - each is a recycled or environmentally friendly grade. Not all the papers used are from Fenner Paper, but we are fortunate enough to have our papers used for October (Shiro Alga Carta) January (Flora Anice) and February (Colorset Sandstone)
The calendar incorporates many different printing and finishing processes, including Litho, digital, hot foiling, embossing with CMI Foiling producing the embossing and foiling techniques. On each page, there is information about the paper and the printing technique...
The calendar is designed and illustrated by Maze Media.

To receive one of these superb calendars, contact Healeys directly and I'm sure they will be happy to send you one ...but you'd better hurry! info@healeys-printers.co.uk

Flora Recycled Paper

If you aren't familiar with Flora, it is a part recycled text and cover paper with a deliberately recycled look and feel with specks and inclusions, so it looks deliberately flecky and specky. Flora is produced by Cordenons with 30% post consumer de-inked waste, together with 60% of virgin FSC pulp and with the "secret" ingredient of 10% of cotton fibres, which gives the paper a wonderful tactile feel.
All the shades have the specks and inclusions with the exception of the Gardenia shade which is a "clean" neutral white shade. The range consists of nine shades in total including Anice, Giglio, Avorio, Tabacco, Noce, Gardenia and three new shades...
...which are lovely new deeper shades: Crusca, Canella and Ginepro
Below shows the detail of the natural, deliberately visible, inclusions and fibres - this paper has a character all of it's own!
It really is a lovely range. Muted natural colours and excellent printability. Here are some previous projects which have used Flora to great effect: http://justinsamazingworldatfennerpaper.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/lower-mill-estate.html

Coal Drops Yard

Coal Drops Yard is the dramatic and dynamic centrepiece of the King’s Cross regeneration program opening in 2018. These stunning Victorian industrial buildings featuring richly coloured bricks, striking arches and solemn ironwork provide a stunning backdrop for this new retail development with design by Heatherwick Studio.

This visually stunning book sets out the retail opportunities to potential retail tenants. It features dramatic photography, high quality CGI and illustration.
Size of the book is a massive 420x250mm, portrait.
The cover has a 'bookjacket' that wraps around the 4pp cover with 175mm flaps. The below image shows the jacket open with the printed filigree pattern printed on the inside. The jacket is printed on Shiro Echo Bright White 120gsm.
The majority of the text is printed on Shiro Echo Bright White 160gsm. Shiro is a 100% Recycled text and cover paper from Favini and as I'm sure you will be able to see from the images below, it prints beautifully. The publication is printed offset litho in CMYK plus a pantone special gold throughout.
Dispersed throughout the book are six 'tip-ins' which are A6 size at the foot of the publication. They are printed on Flora Anice 130gsm which gives them a deliberately industrial look and feel.
If you aren't familiar with Flora, it is a part recycled text and cover paper with a deliberately recycled look and feel with specks and inclusions, so it looks deliberately flecky and specky. There is a 16pp section which is printed on Concorde Pure Brilliance 170gsm, which is an exceptionally high gloss coated, real art paper, which contrast fantastically with the uncoated Shiro (below image, Shiro on left, Concorde on the right)
The quality of the art direction, photography, repro, print and finishing is absolutely superb. The paper also happens to have performed brilliantly! - the metallic gold in particular and the large areas of solid black look superb.
There are many fantastic elements to this job, as well as the 'tip-ins' the job is section sewn and a lovely touch is the use of dark blue thread as you can see in the image below...
...another thing is the superb line-ups between the inside cover and the bookjacket - stunning accuracy in the finishing.
Art direction and design is by Bell Integrated. You can read more about the whole project here: https://www.bell-integrated.co.uk/portfolio/argent/. The excellent print, repro and finishing is by Gavin Martin Colournet, based in London E3.

This is just a wonderful example of where great art direction and design has been complimented by the right choice of materials that work with the imagery and the physicality of the publication - all working together having been executed brilliantly by the printer.

Fuller's Menu

Fuller's Brewery has been brewing fine ales for the past 170 years at their Griffin Brewery and they also have several of their own pubs. The food and beverage menus for these pubs has been printed on our Flora range of papers.
The menus are A4 (297x210mm) portrait printed in three colours offset litho, including a metallic gold ink. They are a gatefold design, so they can stand up on their own , but when open, show an A3 size spread...
