Letterpress with a difference!

I've just been sent an image of this stunning table name card produced for a wedding.

They are printed letterpress on our Kapok 500gsm board, which is a natural, brown coloured board. The tree rings are created as a letterpress varnish which creates this amazing tone and embossed effect. Varnish is rarely used in letterpress printing, so this is something really different.

Click on the image to enlarge:
As well as the varnish effect, the invitation is printed in one special colour with matching edge tinting and round cornering.

Design, print and production is by an extremely skilled and innovative Letterpress studio, Stoneberry Press. The studio is based in Edinburgh and established by Evgenia Kochkina.

Have a look at the other work they do....

My Card

This post is basically a 're-blog' ...a bit of a cheat really!

The renowned London based studio, Atelier Works have recently printed their new business cards. They are printed letterpress on our Colorset White 350gsm - simply and beautifully produced.

Their blog post about the printing and craft of letterpress printing is superbly written, so I'm not going to do anymore than suggest you click on the following link and read their post:

The three partners at Atelier Works are Quentin Newark, John Powner and Ian Chilvers.

Cards are printed on Colorset 100% recycled 350gsm and are printed by Phil Abel at Hand & Eye Letterpress, who are based in a charmingly characterful railway arch in Shadwell, London E1 ...but you'll know that already, if you've taken my advice and read their blog link!

The Glastonbury Free Press

This weekend and for one weekend only ...the Glastonbury Free Press has been set up and is printing a new local newspaper for the Festival. It is being printed on site, using letterpress on a 1954 Original Heidelberg cylinder press.

...and if you'd like to read about how they managed to get a 5 tonne press and linecaster onto a muddy field and make it work, have a read of their blog here:

There's also a design and print your own poster with letterpress artists, a healthy selection of woodblock type and a proofing press.

It's just complete madness but an amazing idea and I wish I was there to see it. I hope it stays dry for the hot metal maniacs in the field.
