Adidas - Spring/Summer 2010

Here is a set of two brochures for Adidas which form the Spring Summer 2010 look books - Mens and Womens.

They are 165x230mm Portrait (an economical format out of a B1 sheet size), section sewn with an 8pp cover and 48pp text (200gsm cover/120gsm text). These are printed on Omnia and the result is just simply stunning. The art direction and photography (by Ben Ingham) is great and the colours are really vibrant ...see for yourselves:
And this is the Women's...
Art Direction and design is by Made Thought. Print is by Push.

This is a fabulous example of printing on Omnia - this job does truly have the tactile feel of an uncoated with the reproduction of a coated - it does look amazing. Right job, right images, right design, right printer, right paper, right right everything!

Charlotte Building W1

This is a lovely example of a casebound book with a paper over board (hardback) cover.

The book was comissioned by property developers Derwent PLC. Design is by Made Thought.

As you will see from the spreads below they have used white mannequins in the empty buildings to great effect. Art direction is superb. Sorry I don't know who the photographer is. The black foil blocking on the cover is very effective.

Size of the book is 210x260mm with a 36pp text.

The book is produced using our Omnia 150gsm which gives it easily enough bulk for a 8mm spine (which you really need for a casebound book). This project has had a heavy "sealer" varnish put all over the sheet which gives it an unusual reflective, slightly pearlescent, finish as opposed to the normal flat, matt tactile finish that Omnia has - an unusual treatment which is effective with the images used in this job.

The job was printed by Team Impression based in Leeds and thank you to Simon Bucktrout for sending us a copy.

Stella McCartney

This is a stunning lookbook for Stella McCartney's new range of sports clothing for Adidas.

Design is by Made Thought.

The job is 230x163mm Portrait and is 72pp and is printed on Omnia 200gsm and 120gsm.
As you will see from the spreads below, the photography (by Tim Barber) really conveys energy and style. Even though the book is divided into eight sporting sections, the design creates lots of space and an uncluttered feel.

The repro, print and finishing is also amazing - by Push. They have made very best of these excellent shots making the printed images really alive and working incredibly well with the substrate.

The finishing requires a special mention. It has an "open" section sewn binding. This is where the book is finished as a conventional section sewn block but glue is applied without the "text block" being placed into a cover. This gives an interesting and unusual effect, which I have seen before but not as well executed as on this job.

...and here are some close ups of the binding:
