Just a little walking log...
As it says on the cover, all walks start somewhere , where they end up is up to you... This is a superb little publication designed and produced by Teresa Coles McGee. Teresa wanted a small log book to record her walks but couldn't find anything available that was what she wanted, so she created her own! The result is this really pleasing little journal which looks and feels just right. The size is A6 (148x105mm) portrait, with a 4pp cover on our Crush Olive 250gsm and a 48pp text on our PaperWise Natural 70gsm, made using 100% agricutural waste and completely unbleached. The materials really work together well giving the notebook a purposeful look and feel. They are very simply produced, digitally printed in just black and saddle stitched. An excellent example of how good a job can look with well thought out design, well considered materials and minimal print.

World Environment Day 2024
Today is World Environment Day. This event is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began in 1974, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. Above all, World Environment Day is the "people's day" for doing something to take care of the Earth. That "something" can be local, national or global. It can be a solo action or involve a crowd.
What better day for me to remind you of a material we launched to coincide with COP26.
PaperWise is an entirely new concept, a range of paper and board manufactured from agricultural waste - this is the stems and leaves left over the harvest and which is often left in the field or burnt. There are additional benefits: PaperWise is produced in factories in India and South America that make a big difference to local communities. Investments are made in education, infrastructure, and healthcare while the manufacturing process is geared toward safety, zero waste, and preserving local ecology.
Lifecycle analysis (LCA) conducted by the University of Amsterdam (IVAM) has concluded that the environmental impact is 47% lower than FSC-paper made from trees and 29% lower than recycled paper...
The natural shade, manufactured from 100% agri-waste is also completely unbleached and has lower Co2 emissions than virgin fibre or recycled papers.
The PaperWise range is held in stock by us at Fenner Paper in Tonbridge. European stocks are held in Rotterdam and include a wide range of packaging boards and lightweight papers with food approval, copier paper and even corrugated boards.
You can read more about this new range HERE and about how this fits with the UN sustainable development goals...
The paper and boards are suitable for all print work and packaging, with a one side coated packaging board up to 465microns.
PaperWise founder Peter van Rosmalen features on this 1 minute video here:

Sustainability in packaging report
In a new survey conducted in the US by McKinsey & Company on Sustainable Packaging, the headline is that consumers are willing to pay more for eco-friendly packaging...Among consumers in the United States, five key findings emerge:
- Price, quality, and convenience are still consumers’ top buying criteria for products, while environmental impact continues to be one of the lowest-ranked factors (however, this is not true for all consumer groups).
- While respondents named hygiene, food safety, and shelf life as the most important characteristics for product packaging when making a purchase, 43 percent of consumers still say environmental impact is an extremely or very important packaging characteristic when making purchasing decisions. That said, the overall relative importance of environmental factors for consumers has decreased somewhat.
- Among concerned consumers, the impact of ocean litter has become the primary environmental issue across all generations, regions, and neighborhoods; all other concerns have decreased in importance since 2020.
- Most consumers do not have a strong understanding of which packaging types are more sustainable but seem to favor compostable and plant-based packaging.
- Most consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable packaging. In fact, in each end-use category surveyed, 4 to 7 percent of consumers are willing to pay a premium well above 10 percent.
The key takeaway from their survey is that winning in sustainable packaging in the US market will require a granular approach. Done right, products with clear environmental credentials are clearly outgrowing their peers. However, there is no universal solution.
You can read the whole report here...

2022 World Cup Wallchart
As we count down to the opening match of the 2022 World Cup, I’m pleased to show our typographic wallchart for recording the action.
The tournament kicks off on November 20th at the Al Bayt Stadium when the hosts Qatar take on Equador. 32 teams play in 8 groups and it will be the first time the event is played in the Middle East.
We have sent out a number of these wallcharts to our football loving design clients, but if you want to make absolutely sure you get a copy, you can email me justin@fennerpaper.co.uk
Despite more than a few eyebrows being raised when Qatar was awarded the privilege of hosting the World Cup, football fans have hailed this as an important one as it’s likely to be the last that the greats like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will compete in.
This beautifully designed typographic wallchart is by David Coates, who also happens to be a member of the ISTD board (International Society of Typographic Designers) and my thanks to Dave for making it all happen - a perfect way to combine his love of type and football!
The wallcharts are printed by Identity Printers on our lovely PaperWise Natural 90gsm made using 100% agricultural waste and completely unbleached! The size is 880 x 315mm. Typeface used is Foundry Unie by The Foundry Types.

One year on ...now it's COP27
Today, the United Nations Climate change conference, known as COP, launches COP27 at Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, attended by leaders of governments, environmental organisations and NGO's. I thought it would be a good day to remind you that it was exactly a year ago, we launched PaperWise, made using 100% agricultural waste, at COP26...
Fenner Paper has launched PaperWise at an online event to coincide with the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. PaperWise is an entirely new concept, a range of paper and board manufactured from agricultural waste - this is the stems and leaves left over the harvest and which is often left in the field or burnt.
At the online launch, Justin Hobson, Marketing Manager at Fenner Paper said “PaperWise users give a second life to agricultural waste. In doing so they lower their ecological footprint, add value to waste, and prevent wastage”
