Caroline Baker

Just the cover makes the difference! I've written on this blog about many projects where the cover "makes the difference" and this is just one of those projects.

Caroline Baker is a company offering property development and family office services and this is a sales and credentials brochure. The cover is printed on one of our new Colorset shades - Charcoal in 350gsm.
Brochure size is 240x170mm, portrait. The outside cover is simply (but beautifully) hot foil blocked in matt white foil.
The inside front and back cover is also hot foil blocked in gloss clear foil.
Another quality element is the three hole sewn binding, which is superbly done and which Identity Printers actually do in-house.
Print and hot foiling is by Identity Print, based in Paddock Wood with Paul Martin handling the project.

Carpenters Wharf

Just the cover makes the difference!
I've written on this blog about many projects where the cover "makes the difference" and this is just one of those projects. Carpenters Wharf is a canalside development by the Anderson Group in Hackney Wick and this is the sales brochure.

The cover is printed on our Colorset (100% Recycled) board in the Nero (black) shade in 350gsm. The cover is silkscreened in opaque white on the outside and inside covers:
 Detail of the silkscreen:
The below image shows the inside spread. The 60pp text is on a combination of coated and uncoated paper.
Another really lovely feature is the three hole sewing using white thread...
Design is by Jack Renwick Studio. Print and lovely finishing is by Gavin Martin Colournet.

Sylph Editions in China

Based in London, Sylph Editions publish fiction, monographs, theoretical essays, limited-edition art and photography books. Some of their work is of particular interest to buyers in China, so they produced this piece of literature as a promotional piece for the Chinese market.
The size of the publication is 210mm square. It has a 4pp cover printed on our Colorset (100% Recycled) Bright Red 120gsm and a 16pp text printed on our Neptune Unique SoftWhite 120gsm. Notice the deliberately lightweight cover - on a 120gsm! allowing the publication to flop and turn beautifully which suits the size and format superbly ..and it also works with the three hole sewn binding as you can see below:
The text is printed using an HP Indigo digital press and the results are superb, beautifully showing the books and publications that they produce.
Centre spread, with three hole sewing and red thread in spine.
Detail showing the three hole sewing:
The below spread shows the book, Painted Nudes about Saul Leiter's painted works. You can read more about this project here:
Design and Art Direction is by Ornan Rotem at Sylph Editions.

Printing and the terrific finishing - which was all achieved in house is by Zone Graphics, based in Paddock Wood in Kent.

Simone Rocha - Gorse

Simone Rocha was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1986. In 2008 she graduated with a BA in Fashion from The NCAD in Dublin followed by an MA from Central Saint Martins in 2010. Simone debuted at London Fashion Week in September 2010 and her collections can be found in some of the most prestigious stockists in the world.

This year at the British Fashion Awards Simone received the “British Womenswear Designer Award” as well as the 2016 Harper’s Bazaar Designer of Year Award.
This publication is a limited edition book produced in collaboration with photographer Colin Dodgson in Ireland. Titled "Gorse", the scale is a luxuriously large 303x420mm, landscape format, which flops and rolls beautifully.

Front Cover....
There is lots of white space, a very uncluttered feeling.

The publication is printed offset litho on our Omnia White 120gsm, the result is superb. The look and feel of the whole publication is very uncoated and tactile but there is absolutely no loss of detail in the images. The feeling of space continues with many unprinted pages...
It is bound using three hole sewing in a red thread. Actually this has two rows of three hole sewing. Below is the centre spread, showing the binding on the inside.
Detail showing the binding (inside)...
Below pic shows detail of the three hole sewing on the spine:
So successful was this publication that many of the images were used as campaign imagery in titles such as Dazed and Confused, The Gentlewoman and Self Service.

Design is by Simmonds. Print production, including the binding is by Pureprint.

Little Boy Found

This limited edition publication is the second of two publications produced by London based photographer  and artist Christopher Paul Sharpe. This is the second book titled The Little Boy Found (the first book is called Little Boy Lost) contains images edited by Lu Bowan, with each of the photographs relating to the theme of ‘lost and found’ ...a very eclectic mix.
Size is 210x148mm (A5), portrait with a 4pp cover printed on Omnia 200gsm and 36pp text printed on Omnia 120gsm.
The book is digitally printed on an HP Indigo press by Gavin Martin Colournet. Omnia is suitable for use on HP Indigo presses if it has been 'sapphire coated'. The colours are strong and punchy and the whole book has a matt, tactile look and feel, the effect of which is every bit as good as litho.
The book is 'singer sewn' with a white thread which is a perfect detail that just adds to the overall effect of this beautifully produced little book.
Outside back cover:
Design is by Studio Thomson, Creative directors are Mark Thomson and Chris Thomson. The book has a limited print edition size of 150 copies. Books are for sale online and also at Foyles. Print and finishing is by Gavin Martin Colournet.

...and for your interest, both books were recently featured as book of the day on the 'self publish be happy' website: http://www.selfpublishbehappy.com/2015/04/book-du-jour-the-little-boy-lost-the-little-boy-found-by-christopher-paul-sharpe/
