Sopianae Brand Book

This project is a brandbook for Sopianae, which is the most well known cigarette brand in Hungary. This book covers the history and culture of the brand whilst explaining the relationship with the Rountable Agency who are their brand communication consultancy.

It is a very large book at 415mmx260mm! It comes with a slipcase and the whole print package is superb and made extra special by the binding.

This is generally described as 'Japanese Binding' as it is in the Size|Format|Stock pamphlet that I wrote, although as I've pointed out in the same publication, terminology is certainly not universal - I doubt if they call this Japanese binding in Japan!
The cover is formed by a 2mm greyboard which is silkscreened in three colours and mounted on the cover. The 64pp text is on a mixture of an uncoated ivory coloured paper (unknown) and our Stardream Crystal 120gsm from Cordenons in Italy.
Now what has made this project particularly worthy of note is that there were not that many copies produced, so in the main, this job was produced on a digital press (HP Indigo). However because of some of the 'throw outs' - such as below, some of the pages had to be printed offset litho as the format of the digital press (in this case SRA3) wasn't large enough.
So the clever thing, from a print point of view, was to get the litho and digital sheets to match! not that easy to do but the end result is superb - as you can see below digital meets litho on the same spread.
The other thing that makes it slightly less complicated is that Stardream is kept in stock as HP Indigo ready, as well as the sheets for offset litho.
Stardream is a pearlescent and metallic range which shimmers and the pic below may give some idea of how it looks:
Design is by the Roundtable Agency. Head of Art is Franco Reda.

Printing and the terrific binding - which was all achieved in house is by Zone Graphics. They truly have excelled.

OKAY Studio

This is a job from a couple of years ago but it's not really old enough to be a "job from the past" and I've just received some good pictures of it so I thought I'd post it now!

OKAYstudio is a design collective, formed from a core of  RCA graduates (design products course) set up in 2006. Design duo, Cai and Kyn were commissioned to create a brochure for an exhibition, Under the Same Roof, held at London’s Aram Gallery. The work of OKAYstudio is really crafted and hand-made, so the brochure required the same feel.
Being self-funded, the budget was tight and the materials and format had to work within the financial constraints. The size of the brochure is 240x280mm, portrait, saddle stitched - economical out of a B1 sheet and it consists of a 4pp cover and a 48pp text.
The cover was on our Colorset Solar 270gsm, hot foil blocked in gloss black foil (outside cover only, cover is otherwise unprinted) - in the designer's words "giving it a fancy look without the fancy cost". The text was printed in one colour, black, offset litho, on our Redeem 100% Recycled 70gsm. Images are all halftones - they look great and in no way makes this feel like an economy job - this is probably in no small way helped by the quality of the photography, by Luke Hayes.
This is simply one of the most impressive pieces of literature for the least amount of money that I have worked on in the past few years. No sponsorship was involved, no freebie paper, no deals done on the price - it just required thought and dedication. Print and finishing is by Kent based printer Zone Graphics.

Leisure Plan

This is a press pack produced for Leisure Plan’s exclusive portfolio of luxury outdoor furniture. They specialise in modern, designer-led furniture including Dedon, Ego Paris and Fischer Möbel. This pack is to announce to the press and trade stockists that these three brands are now exclusively available from Leisure Plan.

The pack consists of four A5 cards, printed offset litho on our Omnia 320gsm in two colours - red and black, with the images produced as halftones only which works really well with Omnia with it's matt flat nature. The cards are held together with a 40mm wide belly band which is simply foiled with the logos of the three manufacturers on Colorset Nero 120gsm - very simple and effective

Below image shows the detail of the Ego Paris card:
Design brothers Cai and Kyn were comissioned to design and produce the pack and thanks to them for sending me a file copy:
