How to Excite the Senses

Jaguar is a purpose-led organisation and their purpose is to excite the senses. This superb publication commissioned by the Jaguar PR and press department is to convey this purpose. This piece of literature embodies all the core values that Jaguar stands for and is produced to a very high specification.
The size of the publication is 165x240mm, landscape. The outside cover is case-bound using a combination of a soft touch covering material and 'quarter bound' in black book-cloth. The front cover is hot foil blocked in a gloss black foil.

The binding is what is generally called "swiss-bound", so the text is mounted onto the inside back cover with the front cover and freestanding spine. The below image shows the inside front cover, inside spine and page one of text.
However, what is unusual about the binding is that the text is section sewn but left as what I describe as "open-bound" with the sections being held together with just thread and a very small amount of glue.

One of the things about this project which is so exciting is the use of different materials. The introduction is an 8pp section printed on Offenbach Bible 60gsm - which is printed sensationally with an amazing image ...the alloy wheel below:
...and below you can see the way the very lightweight Offenbach Bible flops and flows:
The majority of text is printed on our Omnia 120gsm. The majority of pages are printed in a solid black, which looks wonderful on the Omnia.

...but to keep the reader stimulated there are eight "tip- ins" 140x110mm, which are printed on our Astralux 1 sided 90gsm, which is high gloss one side and an uncoated reverse.
The below image shows the way the uncoated and coated combination of the Astralux works really well.
Many of the spreads are also vibrant colours or solids which all work equally well on the Omnia.
The publication is printed offset litho throughout and there is also gloss UV which runs throughout the book. Unlike most uncoated products, you can successfully gloss UV varnish on Omnia (with a single hit) and it works really well - as you can see in the below pic...

Another luxurious touch is the use of coloured thread for the section sewing:
Concept, art direction and design of the publication is by Brand Union.

This is an exquisitely produced book which using a great choice of materials does "excite the senses". The project is printed offset litho throughout. Print is by CPI Colour with Alan Gillespie handling the project.

Coast Lookbook SS|16

Established in 1996, Coast is one of the leading occasionwear brands for women. Coast now boasts 52 stand-alone stores with 184 concessions and 46 international stores. This is the lookbook forSpring Summer last year and is a really superb piece of literature
The cover is printed on our Astralux board - this is a one sided 'Cast Coated' board which means it has a high gloss surface and an uncoated reverse. The outside cover is completely unprinted and features just the most amazingly executed blind emboss - see the detail below:
The cover is printed on Astralux [1 sided] 350gsm. Size of the publication is 240x170mm (which is an economical size to be printed on a B2/B1 size press). The below image shows the inside front cover printed on the uncoated side of the Astralux opposite page one of text, which is all printed on Omnia.

The text material chosen was our Omnia, which would beautifully reproduce the photography with the delicate patterns and dark colours superbly - without forgetting the fleshtones ...and it looks wonderful! The 42pp text is on Omnia White 150gsm, printed offset litho in CMYK throughout.

There are four translucent paper section dividers throughout the publication, printed offset litho in one colour on Spectral, White 130gsm.
Image reproduction is paramount but it was also important that the publication also projected the tactility of the clothes and in the image above and below the detail of the handbag and the extraordinary reproduction of the metallic gold. An ordinary feeling silk or gloss coated paper wasn't an option, so Omnia fitted the bill perfectly.
Omnia is a very bulky paper, so even though it is only 42pp, the Omnia 150gsm gives it a 5mm spine thickness. With most publications of this quality, they are section sewn, however because of the 'tip ins' on the translucent, this book is perfect bound. Below is a close up showing the spine and end of the book:
Another impressive detail is on the outside back cover which is neatly embossed in type which can be no larger than twelve point and which you can see from the image below is beautifully executed - great attention to detail.
Art direction and design is by Coast. Printing, neat embossing and careful finishing is by Identity Print based in Paddock Wood.

Coast Lookbook

Coast is one of the leading occasionwear brands for women. Established in 1996, Coast now boasts 52 stand-alone stores with 184 concessions and 46 international stores. This is the lookbook for last Christmas and is a really sublime piece of print
The cover is printed on our Astralux board - this is a one sided 'Cast Coated' board which means it has a high gloss surface and an uncoated reverse. So in this instance, it's been used inside out! The uncoated reverse has been printed offset litho in a silver special solid colour and hot foil blocked in silver metallic foil and used as the outer cover - the high gloss has been printed in a champagne metallic shade which appears on the inside front and back cover.
The cover is printed on Astralux [1 sided] 350gsm. Size of the publication is 240x165mm (which is an economical size to be printed on a B2/B1 size press)
The text material chosen was our Omnia, which would beautifully reproduce the photography with the delicate patterns and dark colours superbly - without forgetting the fleshtones ...and it looks wonderful! The 44pp text is on Omnia White 150gsm, printed offset litho in CMYK throughout.

Another impressive detail is the spine which is also hot foil blocked in silver metallic foil but which as you can see from the image below centred perfectly within the 5mm spine - great attention to detail

Coast Autumn Winter Lookbook

Coast is one of the leading occasionwear brands for women. Established in 1996, Coast now boasts 52 stand-alone stores with 184 concessions and 46 international stores. This is the latest lookbook for Autumn Winter and is an exquisite piece of literature.

To begin with the cover is yummy! The cover is printed on our Astralux board - this is a one sided 'Cast Coated' board which means it has a high gloss surface and an uncoated reverse. In this instance, it's been used inside out! The uncoated reverse has been printed in a special pantone cover and hot foil blocked in gold metallic foil and used as the outer cover - the high gloss has been printed CMYK and appears on the inside front and back cover
Detail showing inside back cover, with high gloss inside:
The cover is printed on Astralux [1 sided] 350gsm. Size of the publication is 240x165mm(which is an economical size to be printed on a B2/B1 size press)
The text material chosen was our Omnia, which would beautifully reproduce the photography with the delicate patterns and dark colours superbly - without forgetting the fleshtones ...and it looks wonderful!  The 40pp text is on Omnia White 150gsm, printed offset litho in CMYK throughout.
