Crush for Christmas Crackers!

Luisa Vicinanza-Bedi only started learning how to make bean to bar chocolate in 2017. Since then she has established her own shop Luisa's Vegan Chocolates based in Sneinton Market, Nottingham and has a strong online presence. Luisa has also picked up a handful of awards at the Academy of Chocolate including  ‘UK Rising Star’ in 2019.

As part of Luisa's special Christmas offerings, she has produced Christmas Crackers - packed full of goodies and all products happen to be vegan too!

These beautiful crackers are printed on our CRUSH range of papers, made using 15% agro-industrial residues combined with post consumer waste and virgin fibre (all FSC accredited). The cracker body is using Crush Corn 200gsm and the chocolate box wraps are 120gsm. They are superbly digitally printed and foiled by Rose Press in Nottingham, who also specialise in Wedding stationery.

Luisa's Vegan Chocolates is the first and only Bean-To-Bar chocolate maker in Nottingham, taking her chocolate through the delicate artisan process by hand. Luisa directly sources her beans to pay her farmers a better than FairTrade price for their crop, at least double the standard market rate which is wonderful.

It's not Christmas yet but you can always buy some chocolate now and support an ethical small enterprise!... You can buy online HERE.

Crush 03

Crush is a beer 'zine, which is an ongoing side project for design and branding studio O Street. The project allows the studio to combine a bunch of things they love: illustration, print, design and beer!

The focus of issue 3 is 'women in beer'. Historically, brewers were primarily women, until many were targeted as witches and this subject provides a rich seam of content for illustration ...perfect, as we are only a few weeks from Halloween!
The size of the zine is 297x105mm, portrait and is saddle stitched. There is a 4pp cover printed on our Colorset (100% Recycled) Amethyst 270gsm with a 32pp text on our Crush Corn 100gsm, which is made using 15% residues from the processing of corn plus recycled and FSC fibres. You can read about it here.

There are articles about six beers, breweries and women in brewing, all beautifully and wittily illustrated.

There is also photography but you might have noticed that the images have an unusual look. The reason is that this 'zine is 'Riso' printed as all good zines are! If you aren't familiar with Riso printing, you can read about it here. Image reproduction is quite crude as it is a monotone with a coarse screen but the result is really unique and characterful and the illustrations have a wonderful quality to them.
The below image shows all the illustration spreads, all printed 2 colour Riso - SUPERB!

The project was co-ordinated by Jonny Mowat at O Street and my thanks to him for sending me file copies...
The zine is Riso printed and saddle stitched by Good Press who are based in the centre of Glasgow and they really have made a beautiful job of it.

Archerfield Gift Voucher

Fletcher’s Cottage Spa is the luxurious spa set on the Archerfield Estate, which is less than an hour from Edinburgh. The estate features a golf course and several houses which can be booked in their entirety for weddings and celebrations. The spa has been featured in the Sunday Times Travel Top 6 British Spas and the Tatler Spa Guide.
This is the printed gift voucher, the format is a 6pp, A4 gatefold with two "thumbcuts" which hold in the voucher (195x92mm) as you can see in the images below.

The below image shows the outer cover, flat.
This literature is all printed on Crush, Corn 200gsm. It has been digitally printed (beautifully) on a Ricoh 5100 by DTP Print in Edinburgh as you can see from the detail image below...
Creative direction and design is by Katherine Scott at Studio Thought Process based in Edinburgh.

If you aren't familiar with Crush, it is one of our ranges made by FAVINI in Italy and is made using 15% residues from the industrial processing of agricultural processing. As a result, the paper does have inclusions and a "rustic" feel, which you might just be able to see from the image detail below:

Long & Waterson

...just the cover makes the difference!

Here's an interesting project which is well worth a look, because of the high quality finishing processes and the way the cover is used to add to the quality and feel of the whole project.
This 48pp brochure is for a new residential development but the content is much more that of a magazine with eight writers and articles about the area, the architecture and the geography. The finished size is 380x285mm, portrait and is singer sewn. The 48pp text is printed on an uncoated paper.
The cover is printed on our Crush, Corn 250gsm and in fact it isn't printed using ink, it is simply hot foil blocked in a black gloss foil on both the front and back cover.
As you can see from the image below, the foiling looks amazing and you can see the subtle specks in the paper.
Quality of the singer sewing is superb
Design is by Ignite, who are based in Hoxton Square in London. You can read more about the project here.

Print is by Gavin Martin Colournet.

This is the pocket menu, which lists the stunning array of massages and treatments available.
The format is a 14pp, long concertina, held together with a 'belly band'. The finished size is 145mm x 100mm, folding out to 145mm x 980mm.
The birdseye view below shows how it works...
Above shows the front cover. The clever way this concertina format works, means that you can view it in spreads, as you can see below....
The 14pp concertina is printed on Crush, Corn 200gsm and the bellyband is printed on Crush Coffee 250gsm, which are a perfect combination.
Below shows the whole publication spread out, so you can see both sides:
Now one of the important things to point out is that this publication is printed digitally ...yes, even though it's 980mm long! It is printed on a Ricoh 5100 by DTP Print in Edinburgh and they have not only made an excellent job of the printing, there are a couple of other details that are worth pointing out too. The belly band is 45mm wide. The icon is beautifully die cut and it registers right over the printed icon ...just perfect!
Also, most bellybands are glued or stuck with a sticker, which makes them impossible to replace! ...however this band has a clever and well fitting die cut semi circle and slit, which works perfectly.
Creative direction and design is by Katherine Scott at Studio Thought Process based in Edinburgh.
