10 Park Drive

10 Park Drive is a residential development in Canary Wharf, London E14. This exquisite building is designed by award winning architects, Stanton Williams. The development includes 74 studios, 115 one-bedroom apartments, 141 two-bedroom apartments and 15 three-bedroom apartments, is anticipated to complete in 2019. Award winning interiors firm, Make Architects, has ensured the lobby and apartments are unique in appearance, yet exquisite in design and quality.

This superlative promotional brochure gives a flavour of the development, showing the interiors, surrounding area, lifestyle and floorplans etc.
The size of the brochure is 340x240mm, portrait in a limp bound cover. With a 102pp text, this makes a spine of 12mm thickness, which is a substantial book size.
It is 'section sewn' in 8pp sections as you can see above.
The cover is hot foil blocked on a Cool Grey, linen embossed 350gsm board from that other well known Hull based paper merchant! It has a full flap on the inside front cover (above pic)
The text is printed on our Omnia 150gsm. Reproduction is superb whilst still having an excellent bulk with a tactile and engaging feel. Printed offset litho throughout.

The striking commissioned photography has reproduced brilliantly on the Omnia whilst not losing the tactility and natural uncoated feel that was required. The look and feel is a confident piece of literature, not some "glossy property brochure"...
There is a section spread with throwouts left and right to show the panoramic images.
...opening out to:
Section dividers are all bright and vivid
The superb art direction and design is by London based graphic and digital design group Socrates Communications.
The excellent print quality and finishing is by Kingsley Print and Design, based in Egham in Surrey. Sales Director is Bradley Vaughan. It's the first time that a piece of their work has appeared on this blog and if this project is indicative of the quality of their work, I'm sure there will be many more pieces of their work on this blog in the future!

De Worde

This is a type sample booklet for a brand new typeface by type designer, Jeremy Tankard. Designed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Wynkyn de Worde Society, the De Worde typeface takes inspiration from the italic that the printer publisher Wynkyn de Worde used. He was the first to introduce this letter style to English publishing with his printing of Lucian’s ‘Complures dialogi’ of 1528.
Size of the publication is 255x150mm, portrait and is three hole sewn, in keeping with a style of binding that would have been familiar even in the 16th century ...before the invention of staples!
The cover is printed on our brand new Remake (Smoke) 250gsm from Favini. It is a mid grey with a subtle fleck. Remake is made from the discarded residue of the leather manufacturing process and is a revolutionary example of ‘upcycling’. This unique and innovative paper replaces 25% of wood tree pulp with leather residues.
The text pages are printed on another Favini product called Shiro Echo, white 120gsm which is a 100% recycled range. It has a 'neutral' white shade which is perfect for the reproduction of type.
Below shows the centre spread with the red thread on the three hole sewing.
Detail showing the binding.
Text is printed two colours, red and black throughout, including the fabulous solid red spreads.  Printed offset litho throughout.
The cover is printed offset litho and hot foil blocked in white and red.
Design is by Alistair Hall at We Made This. Printing is by Typecast based in Paddock Wood in Kent and the hot foil blocking is by Benwells.

She Lights up the Night

She Lights up the Night is an exhibition coinciding with International Women’s Day, in aid of women’s charity Refuge. Established by founder of They Made This and BBH production director Aine Donovan, it is a graphic art exhibition, where prints are available to buy and ultimately the work is sold to raise funds.

Refuge is a national charity which provides a wide range of specialist services to support women and children experiencing domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence. On any given day their services support almost 5,000 women and children.
The exhibition was opened with a private view last Thursday evening at the Protein Gallery.
Some of the featured artists are Jean Julien, Jon Burgerman, Hattie Stewart, Siggi Eggertsson, Kindah Khalidy, Crispin Finn, Steve Wilson, Mike Perry, Daisy Emerson, Lauren Baker, Hannah Waldron, Olivia Healy, Poul Webb, Letman, Rude, Hense.
The silkscreen prints which were all on sale on the evening are printed by Harvey Lloyd Screenprint. All the print was donated to the charity and we also supplied our lovely Matrisse 200gsm free of charge to support the project.
STRONG by Morag Myerscough.
The exhibition was featured in an article in the Evening Standard here. Thanks needs to be shared all round, to the artists who gave their time and work for nothing, to Protein, Harvey Lloyd Screenprint and especially to Aine Donovan for organising and arranging the whole event - pats on the back all round!

This piece of literature is a mailer and hand-out.

Printed offset Litho in CMYK, it's printed on Marazion Ultra 115gsm, which gives it a lovely tactile feel but the images and solid blacks have reproduced superbly.
Finished size of the piece is 148mm square, which if used as a mailer, can be mailed out economically in a 155mm square envelope. It folds out to a flat size of 296x584mm. The below image shows both sides spread out flat
Below image shows the folds, no cracking, nice and smooth!

The 52pp text is on 120gsm, with a 20pp centre section printed on a 130gsm gloss coated paper shown in the image below. The publication is printed offset litho in CMYK throughout.
...and of course we mustn't forget the boys section, which appears in the second section on the Shiro Echo:

One of the things that is really noticeable is the unhurried sense of space - below is a spread without a model or clothing.
The quality of the art direction, photography, repro, print and finishing is superb. The paper also happens to have performed brilliantly - fleshtones and close up detail looking superb.
The oversize A4 format (310x235mm) flows superbly, large pages feel good on the Shiro Echo 120gsm.
The publication is bound as 'section sewn'. You can see the sections below:
Primark's international Headquarters are in Dublin and the UK offices are in London. Art direction and design is by London creative agency Odd. The excellent print, repro and finishing is by Gavin Martin Colournet, based in London E3.
